Despite having so much wealth to spare, I think Jeff Bezos is a bit late to the space race, whereas Elon Musk’s SpaceX has been making great strides despite having initial setbacks from the startup days.
Long was gone those days, when we used to hear, “slow and steady wins the race (i.e., Jeff Bezos).” The new slogan should be, “fast and furious wins the race (i.e., Elon Musk).” In the story of a rabbit (Musk) and the tortoise (Bezos), if the rabbit never takes success for granted, then he is unstoppable.
A while back, Jeff Bezos announced his mission for Moon 2024 lander, perhaps because Elon Musk wants to go to Mars by that date at the earliest. He wants to revisit the moon while Musk can be the guineapig of Mars Exploration; perhaps that was Bezos’ idea.
But soon after, Elon Musk mocked that Blue Moon mission naming it as “Blue Balls.”
Next, Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin teamed up with Northrop Grumman, Lockheed Martin, and MIT’s Draper to create an old boy’s space club to monopolize the moon mission contract from NASA. But alas! SpaceX won that moon landing contract. Jeff Bezos protested it, but it seems like NASA for now backed SpaceX.
In the latest tweet from Elon Musk, we can see how he is mocking Jeff Bezos once again by even misspelling his name, calling him “Jeffrey Besos”!
Sometimes Elon Musk seems very Donald Trumpish. Back when Jeff Bezos went through a divorce and a whole lot of scandals relating to his extra-marital affair, Donald Trump mocked him by misspelling his name as Jeff “Bozo.”
I really hope and pray that this playground banter of Elon Musk doesn’t land him into more hot water from Jeff Bezos since he has a record of being sued for not keeping his mouth shut (once with the SEC and another time with the diver guy, but they are off topics here).
Until then, we can keep getting entertained by these two richest man’s space race feuds.
